Last year, the capital`s public transport covered more than 36 million kilometers and served almost 100 million passengers
Last year, more than 523 public transport vehicles of AS Tallinna Linnatranspordi (TLT) traveled a total of nearly 36 million kilometers and served approximately 100 million passengers, which is 24.4 million more than in 2021.
According to TLT board member Kaido Padar, the company started processes that make the offered service even more environmentally friendly, more favorable to the urban space, and more user-friendly. “We are very happy that nearly 100 million passengers used our services last year, and we hope that this year we will be able to attract even more people to public transport, as traveling with public vehicles is, in any case, a more economical option compared to using a private car, both in terms of price and environmental protection”, Padar said. He added that in order to increase the comfort of passengers and the quality of service, the company will pay even more attention to the service culture in order to gradually transform from a transport company to a service company.
According to Padar, the year that ended was full of events, and the hardworking team of TLT was able to confirm once again that public transport can be relied on even in the most difficult moments – public transport in the capital does not stop. “In May, we celebrated the 100th dignified anniversary of bus traffic in Tallinn with dignity. If a century ago we had five bus routes and vehicles with wooden benches and a stove to heat the vehicles, today 444 buses, 32 trolleybuses, and 47 trams serve the citizens of the city during peak hours. In autumn, the last 350 gas buses arrived in Estonia, and therefore we sent our diesel buses, which had served the people of Tallinn for 16 years, on their last journey. The average age of the city’s buses was therefore reduced to just 3.3 years, which puts us in a very good place in Europe. We also successfully completed the long-awaited tram procurement, as a result of which 23 new trams will arrive in Tallinn in a few years”, said Padar.
The increase in the number of passengers and mileage is not only due to the increase in the quality of TLT services but also the sharply increased fuel prices and the general cost of living, which makes people increasingly decide in favor of free and safe public transport. When moving around the city, and especially in winter weather conditions, public transport is a good way to get to your destination safely and securely.
